“Order’s Up!” Paterson And The Rise Of The New Jersey Diner (Paterson Museum)

An all-new exhibit at the Paterson Museum highlights all things “diners”… New Jersey Diners, that is! From July 8, 2023 through September 23, 2023, the museum’s Hannah Memorial Gallery will display facts, photographs, relics, signage, and actual tables from some of the Garden State’s hundreds of diners!

Learn about the area’s diners both past & present, including the first iterations of “diners”, historic “diner cars”, and even Paterson’s own Libby’s Lunch (closed in 2020), which has a couple of its iconic signs hanging in the exhibit:

Inside the glass cases are interesting diner artifacts selected by the exhibit’s co-curators Michael Gabriele and Heather Garside. You’ll find actual cookware, menus, kitchen utensils, flatware, service bells, diner memorabilia, and more!

Plus, there’s even the table where Senator (later President) John F. Kennedy reportedly sat while eating in Paterson! While diners are becoming a rare commodity, the “Order’s Up!” exhibit is a fun way to capture and share its culture & essence. The exhibit takes no more than an hour to fully enjoy but you can also check out the rest of the Paterson Museum which is free to visit (but donations are welcome).
