The Science Behind Pixar Exhibition (Liberty Science Center)

The Science Behind Pixar is the latest exhibition at Jersey City’s Liberty Science Center, where fans of all ages can learn about how a Pixar film is made from beginning to end! From now through May 5, 2024, explore the science and technology involved in creating animated classics such as Toy Story, Cars, A Bug’s Life, The Incredibles, and WALL-E.

Stepping into the exhibition you’re greeted with a 5-minute intro video that features Pixar co-founder Ed Catmull. And shortly after, you’ll not only encounter life-size character displays for photo ops (above) but tons of interactive workstations that make you feel like you’re actually working at Pixar! Try your hand at stop-motion (with the Pixar lamp), arranging virtual sets, rigging facial expressions, lighting effects, turning sculptures into virtual 3D models, and dozens of other stations that will bring your favorite characters & moments to life:

Pixar enthusiasts will also love getting a close-up look at some concept art, resin sculpts, and clay models, which all help in the filmmaking process… plus some behind the scenes videos for Monsters University, Cars 2, The Incredibles, Toy Story 3, and A Bug’s Life! This 10,000 sq. ft. exhibition is such a fun and educational experience that truly uncovers how much attention and meticulous detail goes into these iconic movies.

The Science Behind Pixar is a premium add-on experience for general admission to Liberty Science Center, along with other exciting add-on options including the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and Joseph D. Williams 3D Science Theater. Hurry in before this state-of-the-art Pixar exhibit blasts off to infinity and beyond!
