Divine Pathways is a site-specific textile art installation for the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City. Created by Brooklyn artist Anne Patterson, this immersive & vibrant installation is on view through June 2024 and features over a dozen colors that correlate with the beautiful stained-glass windows found inside the 130-year-old cathedral.
As a collaborative exhibit, members of communities & organizations from all over New York City contributed by writing down their hopes, dreams, and prayers on the colorful ribbons which hang from the cathedral’s vaulted nave. Each fabric is roughly 7 stories long and, with 1,106 ribbons in total, the combined length is 15.71 miles!
You’ll even be able to watch the air and light hit the ribbons in various ways, giving you a different lens to look at it every time! The installation also includes a small section with samples, factoids, the creation process, and even a time-lapse video of the assembly. Admission to ‘Divine Pathways’ is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $10 for students.
