The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024) Movie Review

A true story about a secret British organization during Wold War II, the Special Operations Executive, utilizing irregular warfare to help turn the tide of the war against the Germans.

If you’re a fan of Guy Ritchie films, colorful characters, and explosive action, then look no further. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare takes us on an adventure behind enemy lines led by Henry Cavill’s Gus March-Phillips and his band of misfits.

It’s ‘Inglorious Basterds’ meets ‘Kingsman’ in all the most fun & best ways. For 2 solid hours you’ll be enjoying an all-star team-up of an archer (Alan Ritchson), an explosives specialist (Henry Golding), a spy (Eiza González), and others who add to the film’s plethora of humor & violence. But the performances by Cavill, Ritchson, and González definitely shine in this!

The composer, Christopher Benstead, is a long-time Guy Ritchie collaborator and you’ll get to hear a few musical styles in the movie, which each add to the growing tension & excitement of key moments all throughout.

This film would’ve worked as a summer popcorn flick but does just as well of a job during this Spring’s slower movie season. It’s simply a fun time and certainly more enjoyable on the big screen, but minus a couple of twists & turns, nothing revolutionary or mind-blowing.

Overall: 7/10

P.S. There are no mid or post-credits scenes but stick around to enjoy more of Benstead’s musical score while perusing the credits!

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is rated R with a running time of 120 minutes and hits theaters on April 19, 2024.

Directed & co-written by Guy Ritchie.

Starring Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, Eiza González, Alex Pettyfer, Babs Olusanmokun, Henry Golding, Hero Tiffin, and Cary Elwes.
