The journey continues for the Monkey King! In case you missed the limited-time art exhibition at Chelsea Market in May for AAPI Heritage Month, you can still experience artist Jerry Ma’s gallery featuring Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, at Pearl River Mart in NYC’s Chinatown through August 24, 2025. Alongside curator Jerry Ma are 7 other comic book & graphic novel artists: Bernard Chang, Sean Chen, Cliff Chiang, Soo Lee, Howard Ma, Jerome Opeña, and Kimberly Wang, who each contributed one Monkey King piece that was also on view in Chelsea, as well as six additional illustrations found only at Pearl River Mart.

See the Monkey King like never before: dancing at the arcade, venturing through the NYC Subway, shooting hoops at the park, and living it up in a number of Chinatown spots. Each artist’s depiction is unique in its composition and storytelling, a worthwhile visit to get a closer look at the legendary Chinese figure. The exhibition also features the works of the 8 artists including Bernard Chang’s “Batman” & “Shang Chi”, Sean Chen’s “Wolverine” & creator-owned “Evermind”, Cliff Chiang’s “Paper Girls” & “Wonder Woman”, Soo Lee’s “Thundercats” & “Carmilla”, Howard Ma’s “Prototype” & “Enigma Reflection”, Jerry Ma’s “Conan The Barbarian” & “Francisco Lindor”, Jerome Opeña’s “Spider-Man” & “Something Is Killing The Children”, and Kimberly Wang’s “Of Thunder & Lightning” & “Horns”.

“The Monkey King In Chinatown” is also a follow-up to Jerry Ma’s first Pearl River Mart exhibition, “A Chinatown Odyssey”, which inspired his own Monkey King graphic novel. Be sure to check out this one-of-a-kind art exhibition at 452 Broadway, New York, NY 10013 which is open daily from 11am-7pm. Visitors may even sign (or sketch inside) the guest book and purchase framed & unframed art for $88 & $30, respectively.
