Fan Expo Boston returned to the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center from August 4-6, 2023. As this year’s 8th stop in regional Fan Expo conventions, Boston boasted a roster of celebrity guests like Hayden Christensen, Zachary Levi, William Shatner, Danny Trejo, Peter Cullen, and Charles Martinet, as well as comic book creators such as Frank Cho, Gerry Duggan, Ed McGuinness, David Lopez, and Chris Campana.

Fan Expos are known for intersecting all fandoms, whether it’s anime, tabletop gaming, Star Wars, cosplay, Marvel & DC Comics, Pokemon cards, original art… they’ve got it! And this year’s Fan Expo Boston threw a couple more elements into the mix: a Japanese arcade area, a Whatnot livestream booth, a comic con themed food court, and Cool Zoo Animal Encounters:

Yes, that’s a real kangaroo! Not to mention, all of the things you already love about comic cons: meet & greets with your favorite special guests, all kinds of merchandise & memorabilia for sale on the Show Floor, and a top notch Artist Alley where you can get one-on-one facetime with creators, have your books signed, or even pick up one-of-a-kind pieces of art! Ranging from custom trading cards to even full pages, fans were commissioning artists like Chris Campana (below) for original works like a Spider-Man sketch cover:

In addition to the already stellar list of creators in attendance, art reps brought along even more fan favorites like Comic Sketch Art’s Claudia Gray & Marguerite Sauvage, Artist Alliez’s George Vega & Sarah Madura, and special guests like Björn Barends & Martin Zavala hosted by CGC Facilitators Agents of Slabs & Captured Collectibles respectively.

And not to worry! Even though Fan Expo specializes in a wide variety of collectibles, there is always a healthy dose of comic books available! Vintage, modern, key issues, retailer variants… you name it! Plus there were even several convention exclusive covers for sale.

All the while you can rest your legs by attending some of the great programming scheduled all weekend long! Despite the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, celebrity guests still held Q&As and panels, in accordance to what is allowed. And with the Community Zone holding family-friendly events and the Creator Stage hosting engaging talks with various creators, there was no shortage of things to see or do!

All of this plus cosplay (above), activities, a Gaming Arena, and so much more… only at Fan Expo Boston! Next year’s date has already been announced as June 28-30, 2024 so be sure to visit the official site for ticketing info.
