Voted “Unexpected Exhibition Space” by Main Line Today and “Reason To Go To A Tattoo Shop And Not Get A Tattoo” by Best Of Philly, Black Moth Tattoo & Gallery is a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one! The shop’s owner, Steve Martin, has not only been tattooing in his Ardmore, PA location for nearly a decade but also hosts seasonal art shows & exhibitions. And for the first time, he’s curated an exciting Star Wars gallery: “Droids & Sabers: A Star Wars Art Show” on view from May 1 to June 30, 2024.
The opening reception on May 31 featured bites & drinks from Ardmore’s very own HipCityVeg and Tired Hands Brewing Company. From 6-9pm, visitors were able to view 14 original works of art by Steve Martin and fellow tattooers & artists Justin Harris, Chris StrangeBreu, Ozzie Perez, Billy Haines, Adam Guy Hays, Marcus Cripps, Paul Marino, William Thidemann, Thomas Kenney, and Brian Reedy.
Fans will recognize popular characters such as Darth Vader, Ahsoka Tano, Darth Maul, FN-2187, and The Mandalorian, illustrated in a variety of styles & mediums like acrylics, watercolor, oil, ink, and even digital. Along with the rest of the shop’s artwork, almost every Star Wars piece is for sale and 10% of all proceeds go to Ocean Conservancy. Black Moth is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am-6pm.
