You might know that the Rubik’s Cube was invented by Hungarian sculptor Ernő Rubik, but did you know that the world-renown exhibit “Beyond Rubik’s Cube” is now at New Jersey’s Liberty Science Center?
As one of the world’s biggest inventions & puzzles, it’s said that one in seven people on the planet has played with a Rubik’s Cube! And now you can experience first-hand the world’s first museum of all things Rubik’s Cube: from pop culture references to dozens of Rubik’s Cubes variations… and even the original wooden prototype from 1974!
Digital info screens guide you through each display and there are even a few interactive sections as well… in fact, one of them is impossible to miss! Thanks to Entech Innovating Engineering, the Beyond Rubik’s Cube exhibit has the world’s largest fully articulated Rubik’s Cube! At 10 ft tall and 2,367 lbs, not only does this cube look pretty but it’s fully functional by controlling a miniature cube wired to the structure. (Be sure to see how it works in the video at the end of this article!)
The exhibit also features the world’s most expensive cube. That’s right! Designed by Houston jeweler Fred Cuellar, this particular Rubik’s Cube is bedazzled with 18k gold and 1,341 jewels (white diamonds, green emeralds, red rubies, blue & yellow sapphires, and purple amethysts)! Check out the Rubik’s Cube that’s worth over $2.5 million:
That’s one cube you won’t be able to personally twist & turn into 43,252,003,274,487,856,000 combinations!
But young learners & families will have a great time learning about colors, patterns, and even try their hand at speed solving! A foam cube is also on display for youngsters to flip & swap colors.
If you start scratching your head while trying to solve these cubes, don’t worry! On top of all the fantastic display cases found all around the exhibit, Beyond Rubik’s Cube also has an incredible robot that solves a cube which you can actually scramble and insert yourself! Watch as it studies the patterns, flips & turns the cube, and solves it in record speed! (Watch the video below to see it solve mine in under a minute and with only 20 moves!)
And to close out the exhibit, Rubik’s Cube master Anthony Brooks assembled a massive cube mosaic of Dr. Anthony Fauci. Manipulating 1,036 cubes for three hours, Brooks was able to create this masterpiece which can’t be done justice through photo:
