OC Con returned for the first time since 2019 for a one-day event called Ocean City Comic Book & Memorabilia Show. On April 10, 2021, the iconic Ocean City Music Pier hosted a vendor-focused mini comic con with over a dozen tables featuring comic books, vinyl records, action figures, trading cards, t-shirts, art prints, and even jewelry!
It was a beautiful day on the beach and OC Con is perfect for children of all ages! As an introduction to comic book art or collecting, families could pick up a great deal on books from Jackowick Toys (above) or discover up & coming artists like Milton Scales and Garland Holloman of Galica Graphics. And just outside, the Ocean City Free Public Library had their Bookmobile, giving away free supplies, books, graphic novels, and even Japanese Manga to promote reading & writing!
This year’s show did not include any panels or celebrity appearances but geeky videos were playing all day like clips from Star Wars & Avengers movies, or videogame walkthroughs. And though maybe not a “celebrity”, a replica of the “Knight Rider” KITT car was parked out on the Boardwalk!
This impressive KITT was complete with a lifesize cutout of David Hasselhoff’s Michael Knight, and even lit up & played back audio clips for passersby. All this and more, with free admission into the 10am-4pm show like New Jersey author Tony DiGerolamo, clothing brand Redonkulous Entertainment, and 8-bit artists 8bitFusion:
And though there was no official “cosplay” opportunities at the event, that doesn’t mean you can’t get your geek apparel fix! Fan favorite vendor Geek Boy Press had his assortment of original tees, prints, magnets, and enamel pins:
Safety-wise, the Ocean City Comic Book & Memorabilia Show was run very well with masks requirements, temperature checks at the door, and hand sanitizer was provided – all of which is greatly appreciated while we are still working on getting past this pandemic.
And as an added bonus, who can say no to enjoying the amazing Ocean City boardwalk, eateries, activities, and beach! But remember, since this is just a snippet of what the real OC Con is supposed to be like, let’s look forward to its big comeback in the near future!
