Thy Geekdom Con 2023

This Memorial Day weekend, Thy Geekdom Con returned to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center for their 2023 convention! Bigger & better than ever, this year’s con was held from May 26-28 and boasted a roster of 9 special guests and nearly 300 vendors & artists across Halls A, D, and E.

As an anime & gaming event, Thy Geekdom Con had no shortage of Japanese pop culture vendors specializing in a variety of manga, figures, pins, video games, TCG, plush, and even apparel & cosplay items like props, wigs, and swords! You can find vendors like It’s Getting Dicey with their premium dice & tabletop accessories, Snack Shack with international treats, The Game Guyz with video games & consoles, and even DX Sabers with their customized lightsabers… And, yes, there were plenty of other non-anime items to go around!

There were Funko Pops, jewelry, comic books, Lego minifigures, woodwork, and even sci-fi cosplay groups G.I. Joe Finest, Halo 405th Infantry Division, Saber Guild Zeffo Temple, and the Mid-Atlantic Droid & Prop Builders (above). And the iconic Video Gaming Hall returned with popular consoles, cabinets, and pinball machines, all set to free play! We’re talking about Dragon Ball FighterZ, Super Smash Bros., Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, and tournaments all weekend long as well!

Another great way to take a breather, sit, and enjoy a little downtime with fellow fans is with the multitude of panels & programming. This year’s Thy Geekdom Con featured Pokemon Trivia, live musical performances, Cosplay Showcases, and a special panel by video game podcast Still Loading:

Some of the celebrity guests also had Q&A sessions but the best way to meet them is always the dedicated autograph meet & greets and photo ops. Anime voice actors Todd Haberkorn, Brina Palencia, Trina Nishimura, Mike McFarland, Martha Harms, and a few others were available each day with a selection of prints for signatures (but fans were welcome to bring their own items to get signed, too!). And hot on the heels of the Netflix special “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always”, Walter E. Jones was in attendance to meet fans:

And as if that weren’t already enough, Thy Geekdom Con hosts an Artist Alley filled with creatives of all styles, from author to artist. Whether it’s paper/metal prints, embroidery, indie books, pixel art, keychains, buttons, stickers, 3D prints… you name it! Such a wide range of mediums was represented, like Philly Tuft‘s custom pop culture rugs, sculptor JackSquatJB‘s handmade works, and everything in between!

So many great blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments that you just need to be there to soak it all in! But check out some more photos here and be sure to be on the lookout for Thy Geekdom Con 2024 information on their official website!
