Foo Fighters: But Here We Are At Sunrise (The Rooftop At Pier 17)

But Here We Are is the 11th Foo Fighters studio album that will release on June 2, 2023. It’s an album that emotionally responds to the year of losses for the band… specifically the passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins and mother of frontman Dave Grohl, Virginia. As a way to symbolically (and quite literally) welcome a new day and celebrate the album release with fans around the world, three cities held a pre-release listen event on June 1 at sunrise: Toronto (Budweiser Stage), Los Angeles (LA Historic Lake Park), and New York City (Pier 17).

An intimate crowd of roughly a hundred fans came to the Rooftop At Pier 17 in NYC, ready to listen to the new 10-track album from start to finish (roughly 48 minutes). These 4am events were free to attend but entry were first come, first served. And every attendee received the limited But Here We Are lyric booklet that sold out on Spotify in mere minutes.

Fans took over the entire rooftop, spreading across the concert floor, all the way to the benches. Some were engulfed by the booklet while others were carried away by the sonic highways of the new songs. Either way, the crowd cheered and exclaimed between every song like a real live concert because, to them, it was real.

The But Here We Are At Sunrise listen event was cathartic & healing to many, as the sun slowly creeped its way up with every song played, capturing the vibe of the album perfectly. And by the time the final song ‘Rest’ concluded, the sun had risen and it was time to go home to rest with beautiful all-new memories made, thanks to the Foo Fighters once again. Several lucky fans were even approached to give brief testimonials on the album and the experience as a whole.

You can pre-order But Here We Are from everywhere you purchase digital & physical music.
