Art of Manga (Brooklyn Museum)

Art of Manga will make its East Coast debut at Brooklyn Museum on October 3, 2026 with over 600 works of manga from influential manga artists like Oda Eiichiro (One Piece), Araki Hirohiko (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), and nearly a dozen others. Featuring original art pages, covers, storyboards, and rare illustrations, see firsthand the vast variety and influential impact that manga has made throughout the history of print media.

Located in the Brooklyn Museum’s Great Hall, this ticketed timed-entry exhibition gives you access to some breathtaking galleries including never-before-seen drawings (like the 12-panel JoJo acrylic painting below), recently translated stories, a celebration of 100 years of Books Kinokuniya, and “Manga Before Manga” which showcases some of the earliest examples of Japanese narrative paintings and porcelain from the Edo & Meiji periods. Learn about the manga artists, known as mangaka, and get up close & personal with fan-favorite titles such as Inuyasha, Bleach, and Ōoku: The Inner Chambers.

During the Press Preview on September 30, the curator-guided tour not only showed us the culture of manga like never before, but was also a reminder that manga isn’t what you put on the walls, but what you hold in your hands. And after seeing the exhibition’s glossary of key terms, you’ll learn that narrative art comes in many forms, themes, and even languages. In the Books Kinokuniya section, you’ll have a hands-on opportunity to check out different styles & translations of print media from VIZ, Shonen Jump, Shueisha, and even Korean manhwa. Flip through as you read at your own pace, enjoy the stories the way that you want, and ultimately become the “director of your experience”.

Finally after experiencing the extensive One Piece gallery (below) filled with 80 works, exit through the official Art of Manga Shop where you can browse prints & posters, stationery, lenticular tarot cards, apparel, and sections for each represented artist with pins, acrylics, blind bags, postcards, plushies, and, of course, manga. There are even 150+ Bandai Gashapon machines to retrieve capsule collectibles from Hololive, Sanrio, Gundam, One Piece, Digimon, Spy x Family, Dragon Ball, Demon Slayer, Sand Land, Blue Lock, Haikyu, Kenshin, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and the list goes on & on!

You can easily spend all day taking in all of the amazing manga art inside Brooklyn Museum’s Art of Manga exhibition! And what better way to finish your trip than with the special Manga Meshi menu for a limited time at the Cafe at the Brooklyn Museum, complete with chicken gyoza, a Tokyo hot dog, furikake pretzel, vegetable okonomiyaki, chicken katsu sando, ramen, and various snacks & beverages.

Art of Manga will be on view October 3, 2026 through January 31, 2027 during museum hours, Wednesday through Sunday. Brooklyn Museum is located at 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, NY.
