*Enter to win a Rob Liefeld signed Deadpool variant comic at the end of this post!*
Rob Liefeld, co-creator of Marvel’s anti-hero Deadpool, had a pop-up shop for all things Deadpool on May 15, 2018 located in Chelsea, New York City.
For 5 hours, fans had the opportunity to shop special Liefeld variant covers (some only available at these in-person appearances or on his website), get a leg up on limited edition Deadpool plushes, and meet the creator himself!
Right in the middle of a flash thunderstorm, I made it to the pop-up with just a little time to spare. Ryan Reynolds’ 2016 film was playing on a flat screen where fans could wait or get their items ready for signing.
There was an option on Rob’s website to pre-pay for two types of VIP passes.
The $99.99 Liefeld VIP Package included (1) signed Rob Liefeld variant of Despicable Deadpool #287, (1) exclusive 11 x 17 Deadpool print, (1) $40 credit towards a signature on a comic book of your choosing, and of course front of the line, first access.
The $139.99 Extreme VIP Package included the same as the above, plus an additional exclusive Rob Liefeld variant of Cable & The New Mutants #150 (which is only available in-person or on his website) and (1) photo with Rob with up to 3 people.
In addition, the first 80 people would receive the Fandango exclusive poster where Rob Liefeld recreates his iconic New Mutants #98 cover using Deadpool 2 styling. I got both prints signed.
He even inscribed one with “Maximum effort!”:
I met Rob for the first time last year at Wizard World Philadelphia, where he signed my Deadpool #12. I didn’t take a picture with him then and I told him this time around that I regretted it. So needless to say, I was pretty excited to make up for it here!
After complimenting my shirt (which he knew exactly where I got it from), he goes on to explain that he’s also disappointed that he would not be attending this year’s Wizard World Philadelphia. “Great con, beautiful city, amazing food”, as he put it.
Instead, this weekend on May 19 he’ll be in Industry, California for “Deadpool Day” with Deadpool 2’s Lewis Tan (Shatterstar) for another pop-up event! So if you’re on the West Coast, you won’t want to miss it!
Rob had a fantastic selection of variants you could purchase (in case you didn’t bring your own items) and was even offering a COA (Certificate of Authenticity) & sticker for an additional $20.
He also had a mini-wall of Funko Pop figures, the new Ultimate Deadpool 1/4 scale figure from NECA, and some 6″ Marvel Legends figures:
I loved how Rob took time to chat with me about Deadpool the character, the Deadpool 2 premiere in NYC, and our favorite eateries in Philly. All while signing my items, not skipping a beat!
I brought a few Liefeld covers that I was fond of, but ultimately settled on the “True Believers Deadpool #1” issue. I think it looks pretty great next to the 2 books I received in my VIP Package!
