Wizard World Virtual Experiences made a Supernatural debut on March 31, 2020 with a brand new online platform for fans to meet their favorite convention guests and get a chance to ask some burning questions!
With so many cons being postponed or canceled around the world due to COVID-19, it was a refreshing opportunity to get some kind of convention experience from the comfort of your own home. And what better way to kick things off than with five amazing cast members from the CW show Supernatural: Mark Sheppard (Crowley), Ruth Connel (Rowena), Emily Swallow (The Darkness), Tim Omundson (Knight of Hell Cain), and Sebastian Roché (Balthazar).
The hour long virtual session was free to attend through Wizard World’s Twitch stream with optional paid extras available for fans such as one-on-one 1-minute video “meet & greets”, autographs (8×10 or 11×17 photo shipped), or even a personal video recorded message (in the case of Emily, Tim, and Sebastian)!
At Wizard World Virtual Experiences, it’s like everybody gets a first row seat to the panel! And thousands of fans were able to gather online to watch this exclusive Twitch stream as the stars answered questions and encouraged everybody with what they’ve been up to during these trying times, while quarantined at home.
Emily Swallow shared that she’s inspired & uplifted by how others are coming together during this time. Her husband unfortunately tested positive for COVID-19 and she’s been trying to be careful & mindful. But shares that even though people may feel physically limited, she still sees them come together in other ways.
When asked if virtual cons could work going forward, Sebastian Roché said that its wonderful to gather in this way and to see his fellow co-stars’ faces but hopes to return to in-person conventions once everything settles down. Emily Swallow chimed in, expressing her love for the “mini communities” at conventions, but a benefit of online convention experiences is that they are more accessible to people who would otherwise be unable to afford admission fees or even the potential travel costs.
And though the cast wasn’t able to go into the nitty-gritty of specific episodes or scenes, they did touch upon some generals about working on the show, sharing fond memories ranging from behind-the-scenes convention fun or how they were welcomed on set by the Supernatural family. All the while, the chat was buzzing with fan love, questions, and reactions via words & emojis!
One fan submitted a question, asking who each cast member would want to portray on Supernatural besides their own, to which they each hilariously answered that they want to stick with their own. But Tim Omundson said that he can’t imagine doing a better job than what has already been done. And to close off, they each expressed their gratitude to the Supernatural fandom/family and also thanked Wizard World for organizing such an amazing virtual experience, and maybe broke out into a little song?
So stay tuned for the next Virtual Experience on April 4, 2020 with stars from Once Upon A Time and you can check it out for yourself!
