Wintercon 2022 (Resorts World Casino NYC)

Wintercon returned to its home at the Resorts World Casino in Jamaica, NY on March 12 & 13 after a two year hiatus due to the pandemic. Despite the inclement weather, fans were excited to show up, filling the fifth floor “Central Park” event space along with 20 media guests, 60 vendors, and 40 artists!

Some of this year’s media guests included Halloween’s Nick Castle, a mini Aliens reunion (with Michael Biehn, Jenette Goldstein, Mark Rolston, William Hope, Ricco Ross), Terminator 3’s Kristanna Loken, and composer Alan Howarth. Fans had the opportunity to line up for meet & greets with these celebrities, with autographs & photo ops offered at an additional cost. Wintercon tends to invite these special sci-fi guests thematically so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for your favorite franchises, like the cast of Transformers Cyberverse below:

In fact, there was back-to-back programming on both days: various Q&A panels with the media guests, cosplay contests, and a rare performance by Alan Howarth:

On top of that, Wintercon also hosts a nice sampling of vendors and artists to shop from, ranging from collectibles like Pokemon cards, D&D dice, action figures, apparel, and comic books!

And if comics are your thing, Wintercon’s Artist Alley had rows and rows of both mainstream and indie comic book creators! Guests of Honor included Tom DeFalco, Scott Hanna, Sean Chen, Reilly Brown, Neslon DeCastro, Arthur Suydam, and Nik Virella… plus dozens more!

Even though Wintercon was only two days long, commissioning an artist for a one-of-a-kind art piece was still an option! Above, Sean Chen is adding a Colossus to a fan’s X-Men jam piece, where multiple artists contribute to a single art collage. Some creators even brought along art prints, original pages & coverwork, and their own self-published books.

Fans were also able to familiarize themselves with amazing industry talents (above) like Ben Harvey, George Vega, Eddie Avila, and Criss Madd. All the while, you got to enjoy the con alongside some of the best cosplay around! Not only were there cosplay guests like Kawaii Kiwi and Barbie Chula, but local favorites like the 501st Legion and NY Avengers too! Plus tons of attendees dressed for the occasion, many of whom were ready to go “head to head” in the cosplay contest:

All this, and so much more only at Wintercon! We’re talking about video gaming stations, Moonshine Chocolate Co., real life Star Wars droid builders, and other experiences you’ll just have to see for yourself! Stay tuned for Wintercon 2023 announcements through their site & Facebook, but until then check out our quick video recap of the show!
